\"Xiquets<\/a><\/p>\n

Tarragona will be hosting, from June 24th till 30th, the 1st Setmana Castellera<\/strong> (Human towers\u2019 Week); a whole new event of tourist interest born with a will of both achieving a certain tourist popularity and positioning, and capitalizing, at the same time, the main cultural and traditional sources of our country, the ‘castells’, declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage<\/a><\/strong> asset. <\/p>\n

\u2018Tarragona, city of ‘castells’<\/strong>\u2019 will include several activities: castells exhibitions, shows, conferences, casteller dinners and vermouts and, as a brand new experience, several tours around the main castells squares, and visits to the actual \u2018Colla de Castellers Xiquets de Tarragona<\/a><\/strong>\u2019 and \u2018Colla Jove Xiquets de Tarragona<\/a><\/strong>\u2019 rehearsals. <\/p>\n

\"Colla<\/a><\/p>\n

This initiative will also entail yet another diada (castells event), to be held on Saturday June 29 (\u2018Pla\u00e7a del Rei\u2019, 7pm) with the \u2018Xiquets de Tarragona<\/strong>\u2019 and \u2018Colla Jove Xiquets de Tarragona<\/strong>\u2019 performances. The \u2018Xiquets del Serrallo<\/a><\/strong>\u2019 and \u2018Castellers de Sant Pere i Sant Pau<\/a><\/strong>\u2019, also taking part in the above mentioned event, and most provably actively performing in the so called diada next year, will have a specific area for them to shine. The ones on the \u2018green shirt\u2019 (\u2018Castellers de Sant Pere i Sant Pau<\/strong>\u2019) will be performing on Tuesday June 25 at the \u2018Pla de la Seu\u2019, right in front of Tarragona\u2019s Cathedral; on the other hand, the ones on the \u2018blue shirt\u2019 (\u2018Xiquets del Serrallo<\/strong>\u2019) will be performing on Sunday June 30 at their own area\u2019s main square, together with the \u2018Xiquets de Tarragona<\/strong>\u2019 and \u2018Castellers de Vilafranca<\/strong>\u2019.<\/p>\n

The start for \u2018Tarragona, ciutat de ‘castells’<\/strong>\u2019 will be the traditional diada of \u2018Sant Joan\u2019, on Monday June 24 (\u2018Pla\u00e7a de la Font\u2019, at 7pm), and will involve all four Tarragona colles (teams).<\/p>\n

\"Mans<\/a><\/p>\n

Throughout the castells week, two exhibitions will also be available for everyone to enjoy: the first one, at the \u2018Pati Jaume I\u2019, inside Tarragona\u2019s town hall, with the graphic storyline \u2018Tarragona, a story of ‘castells’<\/strong>\u2019; the second one, by David Oliete<\/strong>, at the \u2018Espai Turisme\u2019 (carrer Major, 36): \u2018El cel dels ‘castells’<\/strong>\u2019 will combine pictures with an audiovisual presentation.<\/p>\n

On top of this, and in order to get to experience what taking part of a colla actually means, a guided tour \u2013\u2018Tarragona, ciutat de ‘castells’<\/strong>\u2013 will be held in the mornings at 11am, taking visitors to the most important castells squares in the city, while letting them know about anecdotes and stories regarding this traditional practice. These tours will end with a vermout at the \u2018Pla\u00e7a de la Font\u2019.<\/p>\n

\"Xiquets<\/a><\/p>\n

The manager for the \u2018Coordinadora de Colles Castelleres de Catalunya<\/a> (CCCC)<\/strong>, who is both part of the \u2018Nens del Vendrell<\/strong>\u2019 colla, and dean of the \u2018Facultat de Dret de la URV\u2019, Alfonso Gonz\u00e1lez<\/strong>, will talk on June 27 about \u2018Els ‘castells’ i el turisme<\/strong>\u2019, at the \u2018Espai Turisme\u2019.<\/p>\n

\"Alegria<\/a><\/p>\n

Finally, it is worth mentioning that added to the first \u2018Tarragona, ciutat de ‘castells’<\/strong>\u2019 release, the rehearsal events schedule \u2013including a guided tour and optional dinner\u2013 will also be offered for sale, with both the \u2018Xiquets de Tarragona<\/strong>\u2019 and the \u2018Colla Jove Xiquets de Tarragona<\/strong>\u2019. Attending to such rehearsals, held every Tuesday on July and August, from 8.30pm till 10pm, will have a cost of just 9\u20ac, being completely free for kids under 12. \u2018Rehearsal + dinner\u2019 pack prices are up to 25\u20ac for adults, and 15\u20ac for kids. Tours will be available in Catalan, Spanish, English and French.<\/p>\n
