\u201cIf history was told using dialogs, no one would ever forget it<\/em>\u201d, wrote the first English Noble Prize, Rudyard Kipling<\/strong>. Tarraco Viva Festival<\/a><\/strong>, which is based on this philosophy \u2013telling history using a story\u2013, opens this Sunday under the heading \u201cRoma i Egipte, una fastinaci\u00f3 mediterr\u00e0nia<\/em><\/strong>\u201d (Rome and Egypt, a Mediterranean fascination). The director of the festival, Mag\u00ed Seritjol<\/strong>, hints this year\u2019s edition is a statement of intentions of what we can expect in the next years: \u201cWe\u2019d like to present, not just the history of Ancient Rome, but the encounter of the two largest classic Mediterranean civilizations<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n

Tarraco Viva<\/strong> offers, between 15 and 19 May, a time travel to takes us back to the Roman<\/strong> and Egyptian<\/strong> worlds. Overall, it\u2019s 124 activities, which add up to 436 events, designed with educational purposes in mind. The Praetorium<\/strong>, Amphitheatre<\/strong>, Circus<\/strong>, Forum<\/strong> of the Colony<\/strong> and Walls<\/strong>, will home most of the programmed activities, despite the fact that, as usual, others will take place in towns such as Constant\u00ed<\/strong>, Altafulla<\/strong>, Cambrils<\/strong>, Falset<\/strong> or Porrera<\/strong>, to we add which Vila-rodona\u2019s<\/strong> columbarium this year.<\/p>\n

The opening ceremony, due on Sunday 15 May in the Sarcophagus room<\/strong> of the Roman Praetorium<\/strong>, will present a debate concerning the relationship existing between these two civilizations that happened to meet in time, with the intervention of several experts in the field: URV\u2019s professor, Joaqu\u00edn Ruiz de Arbulo<\/strong>; journalist, Enric Calpena<\/strong>; Barcelona Egypt Museum\u2019s curator, Luis Manuel Gonz\u00e1lvez<\/strong>; URV\u2019s Greek Philosophy teacher, Jes\u00fas Carruesco<\/strong>, and the festival\u2019s director, Mag\u00ed Seritjol<\/strong>, as the debate\u2019s moderator.<\/p>\n

Among the different activities programmed, we can find a bit of everything: guided tours, open days to museums, workshops and games, lectures, school activities, audiovisual projections, dramatic readings, concerts, food tastings and successful historical re-enactments. Concerning the latter, there\u2019s two new ones related to this edition\u2019s tittle, whereas others will recreate funerary banquets, feminine prostitution in Rome<\/strong>, gourmets of the antiquity, or the celebrated Ars Dimicandi<\/a><\/strong>, with their gladiators shows, or the Ludi Scaenici<\/a><\/strong>, which will bring back the Ancient Rome\u2019s music.<\/p>\n

The festival will end on Sunday 29, at 6pm, with a spectacular event, due in the Sala August<\/strong>, Palau de Congressos<\/strong> in Tarragona<\/strong>, where users will have the chande to admire the re-enactment performance \u201cMirades d\u2019Eternitat.
